Recent Government forecasts are that climate change will result in temperature rises of between 2°C and 5°C in East Riding within the lifespan of children born today.  Rainfall is likely to reduce overall, but be concentrated into shorter, more intense downpours which would lead to increased flooding and storm damage.

Most scientists agree that human activities are the cause of this, particularly the emission of greenhouse gases.  The energy sector (electricity, heat and transport) is responsible for some 60% of these emissions globally3 and it is clear that if we are to try and tackle climate change there needs to be a move away from burning ever more fossil fuels to cleaner more sustainable forms of energy.

If constructed, a five turbine wind farm at Spaldington Airfield could meet the average electricity needs of 5,900 to 7,300 homes, equivalent to all the households in Howden, Holme in Spalding Moor, Spaldington and further surrounding villages.

As well as making the the UK more energy self-sufficient, this electricity would be generated without greenhouse gas emissions or other harmful waste products.  This would offset the release of between  11,300,400 kg and 14,125,500 kg of carbon dioxide emissions a year from conventional power stations4 - equivalent to driving a Ford Focus 1.6 Zetec for 44-55 million miles (enough for around 100 round trips to the moon)5.
