Community
As well as helping to meet global and national targets, wind farms also deliver local benefits to the communities in which they are located.
Wherever practical we try to use companies based near a potential wind farm during its development, construction and operation so as to bring money into the local economy.
A community trust fund is also set up for each project into which a proportion of the income it earns is paid. This fund is used to support a range of local initiatives which, depending on the needs of the community, might include educational initiatives in schools, local environmental schemes and energy efficiency projects.
Beyond this, Coriolis also believe in giving individuals living locally to a wind farm the opportunity to share in its ownership. An unusual and award winning scheme to enable this has been developed in collaboration with Energy4All. This involves setting up an independent co-operative to own a financial stake in a project alongside Falck. Individuals from the local area are given priority in terms of purchasing shares in this co-operative and the returns available to such investors have to date been very competitive.
